What is a GMO? do the research, make a stand.. YOU deserve it!
During a recent conversation with a family member, I have come to realize how silly our rationalized thinking can be sometimes. I started talking about food and choices we all make today. Our food choices are filled with food derived from GMO's (genetically modified organisms), wheat, dairy with hormones and antibiotics and grocery stores filled with processed food that has more chemicals on the labels that I won't even attempt to pronounce. As I asked the question "do you know what a GMO is?" the answer was "I don't care, I am still here." As I thought about this response I wondered, is it because I am younger and have this knowledge of something they don't.. was their ego challenged? -or- is it because they really do not want to know?" Is this the same for a lot of people?
My wheels were turning, and then I thought; what are the consequences of NOT knowing this information? If people knew that animals grazed on GMO crops and were getting sick and dying of all sorts of illnesses, would they be more apt to turn the other cheek? If they knew that this food had chemicals and pesticides built into their DNA ,then the animals eat the food, then we eat the animals-- would it make sense then?
Is the government hiding this information so that the big pharma and insurance companies cash in as we get sicker and weaker? As our health weakens, we then get depressed because after numerous attempts at the doctor they still do not have an answer. Instead, they keep treating our symptoms with more medication to mask it, then top it off with an antidepressant to boot. We are left to walk around numb, zombie like, emotionless, believing whatever they tell us. WHY? because they are doctors, they have degrees, they have been taught by the big pharmaceutical companies to look at the persons symptoms and address those from a scientific standpoint. Yes, they may tell you to diet and exercise but it is put into the pool of "should of, could of, would of's." Instead, we say "just Pill us" and "I want to be fixed now."
We have also been brought up with the belief system that cheaper is better. Numerous people go into Walmart looking for the best prices and deals and stock up on these foods because "the price was right." REALLY? yes, to the naive eye the price was right at the time. Let's fast forward 20 years, where you will be spending more money for deductibles at the doctors office and to fill prescriptions. Let's look at how happy you are going to be going from doctor to doctor while complaining to others about all your symptoms and ailments.
WHAT IF... everyone started doing their own research to get to the bottom of their own health issues instead of blaming outside circumstances and looking for quick fix pills. What if... people turned inward and started becoming aware of their choices and consequences of these choices. What if... we stopped worrying so much about quantity and price of food and we started worrying about the quality of food. Would we be happier if we took care of ourselves and tended to our body, mind and spirit instead of leaving it in the hands of others who only see us as a symptom?
If everyone was responsible for his own health and acted responsibly, what would the world be like? I am guessing in other countries where foods are labeled there is less health issues than there is here in the U.S. Remember, only YOU have the power to make choices for yourself and if we all took a stand we could make a healthier future, not only for ourselves, but for future generations to come. Do the research, make a stand... YOU deserve to be healthy and happy!
I agree with you totally! People need to be educated. It's easy to ignore things until we are healthy, but after that it's too late. I think it's more like we are flooded with warnings and concerns and after a while we get more immune. So probably with some simple metaphors there would be more effect on people and they would start choosing more conscioussly. Great article!
