World Hug to Newtown

As I sit back and reflect over this past weeks events, an overwhelming sense of sadness comes over me. In my last post, I wrote about a terrible incident that happened between my son and my brothers dog, and how helpless I felt during the whole event.  Now, words cannot express how much my heart bleeds for each and every Newtown child (now angels above), and for the brave adults that were trying to protect them.  A day just like any other day, so it seemed, turned into a horrific and mind numbing tragedy.  "How can this happen?"everyone asks.  The sad truth is that this can happen anywhere, at any time, in any town.  No one is safe in reality, however, our own safety and certainty can be taken away at any time if we allow it.
To be honest, I was one of those parents who nervously looked at her kids as they got on the bus Monday morning. I looked as they stepped on and just wanted to pull them back and take them home, where I would know they are safe. Then I think, what would that prove?
Now, I turn it around and say, "what can we learn from this painful event that would allow us to gain back some sense of trust and security?" Someone told me there was a post on Facebook that stated a question that said "god, how could you let this happen to small children in our schools? and his reply was "because I am no longer allowed in your schools". WOW, that strung a chord like no other and sent chills down my spine! If we think about it, it is absolutely true.
Why can't we let god back in our schools? I do not care what religion you are or whether you call him god, buddha, allah or the divine light-- it is something that is beyond us.  If the atheists don't want to pray, they don't have to. However, every other person or child that does believe should have a moment to pray to their higher source.  If they can have a multi-denominational vigil with President Obama, then why can't we do this on a regular basis? President Obama also stated that "we" are all in this together.  We need to help out each other out in order to feel secure and safe. That means looking out for each other and each other's kids.  If we are all conscious of others and treat others with the same respect we would like to be treated with, then the world would be a safer, kinder place.  These are the values we need to teach children.  Again, we are all in this together and if we are aware of others and try to help whether it be: a single parent needed an extra hand, a homeless person on the street or an elderly person who just wants company it is all of our responsibility to help out where we can and teach our children these lessons.
According to the Mayan calendar they say the world (as we know it) will end on 12/21/2012 and we will be entering into an era of spiritual enlightenment.  As humans we will all start to awaken out of trance and go back to basics.  In order to do this, ALL must realize that there is no "I" in team and we really are as one. This horrific event was a wake up call to all. It rocked our core because it was in our backyard and involved our children.  The lesson here is to look around, be aware, be considerate and kind and most of all keep ALL of our children safe. God bless those little angels and those that died protecting them--they are true heroes. You will never be forgotten.
